MATTERS ARISING DISABILITY ACCESS RAMPS All items to be taken regarding disability access ramps in Brandon. It was pointed out that SCC still requests Brandon Town Council to designate areas for placement. Cllr Mrs J A Ahern asserted that all ramps designated on the previous survey sent to SCC are necessary. Cllr Mrs J A Ahern proposed Brandon Town Council write to SCC and request the County Council reassess the survey in view of the fact that all ramps are equally important. Cllr Mr N A Vant seconded the proposal. Cllr Mr P S Baldwin motioned an amendment - that Brandon Town Council write to SCC to assure BTC that SCC will comply with current legislation and install designated disability access ramps in Brandon by 2004. The amendment was proposed by Cllr Mr P S Baldwin and seconded by Cllr Mr R Silvester AMENDMENT CARRIED: 6 for, 3 against, 1 abstention. THAT BRANDON TOWN COUNCIL WRITE TO SCC AND REQUEST ASSURANCE THAT SCC WILL COMPLY WITH CURRENT LEGISLATION AND INSTALL DESIGNATED DISABILITY ACCESS RAMPS IN BRANDON BY 2004.INADEQUATE SCHOOL TRANSPORT PROVISION Concern was expressed over unnecessary disruption to the education of young people in Brandon due to inadequate and unreliable school transport provision. The same bus taking Brandon scholars to Mildenhall College of Technology simultaneously transports US children to their school/college situated on the US Air Force Base. Any problems or delays arising due to the US base being the first stop is detrimental to the education of Brandon scholars attending Mildenhall College. In contrast, it was pointed out that young people in Beck Row, for example, are provided with a SCC bus driven by an SCC employee. Resolution Record No. BTC083/01/Sept//03 Proposed by Cllr Mr A P Saxby and seconded by Cllr Mrs J A Ahern CARRIED: Unanimous THAT BRANDON TOWN COUNCIL REQUEST SCC TO PROVIDE SCHOLARS IN BRANDON WITH AN SCC SCHOOL BUS DRIVEN BY AN SCC EMPLOYEE.MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL BRANDON TOWN COUNCIL MEETING OF MONDAY 4 AUGUST 2003 No matters arising MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL BRANDON TOWN COUNCIL (CONTINUATION) MEETING ON MONDAY 11 AUGUST 2003 No matters arising MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL BRANDON TOWN COUNCIL MEETING OF MONDAY 11 AUGUST 2003 (PUBLIC ITEMS) ITEM 3 – FHDC REQUEST TO REMOVE TREES AT THE ENTRANCE TO BRANDON REMEMBERENCE PLAYING FIELDS RE VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN ACCESS. He claimed the closure has caused several RTA fatalities in the region of Lakenheath and the main road between Lakenheath and Mildenhall should be reopened. He thanked Brandon Town Council for recently removing the damaged bus shelter in London Road so quickly (at the junction with Old Forge Court – westbound). Mr Lukaniuk also stated the bus stop is a hazard for pedestrians in its present location and suggested it be relocated to the vicinity of Tescos for road safety reasons. Ms Gillian Linge, G & I Auto Parts, London Road, reiterated Mr Lukaniuks concerns about the location of the aforementioned bus stop. She added that buses stopping there create traffic congestion blocking access to her premises, in an already congested area, and this causes accidents. Mrs Burke was disappointed with the Police absence at the Meeting. She wanted to question the Police about an ongoing dispute with a neighbour. Mr Peter Ridgewell emphasised that George Street would be an ideal spot for relocating the bus stop in question from London Road. A lay-by could also be accommodated at that site. Mr Mark Hollier complained about cars parking on Market Hill. He believed that bollards are required because Police attention is insufficient. Mrs Gina enquired what Brandon Town Council and Suffolk County Council intend doing about the bus stop outside 34, London Road (eastbound). This is opposite the Old Forge Court bus stop, which amplifies the problems surrounding congestion and road safety. Cllr J A Ahern proposed the Council reconvene. Seconded by Cllr Jureko.
